“As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, ‘Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city.’ But he lingered. So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.” Genesis 19: 15-16
I love this. How many times is there something urgent going on in my life yet I linger when it comes to dealing with it? A lot. The angels were frantically urging Lot to escape for his life because they were literally going to destroy the city, and Lot still didn’t take it as seriously as he should have. He lingered. So they took him by the hand and brought him and his family to safety. Lot wasn’t listening and the Lord showed him even more mercy. What an amazing God we serve. He is so patient with us and calm in His dealings with His ignorant and stubborn people. I am so thankful that He knows we’re only dust and has great compassion on us. They are so many times, I’m sure, when the Lord had to take me by the hand and bring me to safety because I didn’t listen to Him the first time. I want to be quick to respond to God’s direction and always listen the first time He tells me something.
